Anet needs to take the next step.

Profanity, verbal abuse, character names with sexual innuendo. Runescape ads, buying or selling of GW accounts.

All of this is more noticeable with trade spam gone. If this is ignored then cracking down on trade spam was a waste of time.

All of this needs banning.

This is not about whether you find the conversation in local chat to be immature. This is about the fact that local chat was provided to be a place for people to converse, not for trade. There is a trade channel for trade. Trade spam directly impeded the ability of players to use the local channel for the purpose it exists, to the point where it could not be used for that purpose at all. Your argument is about your personal preference, not about the real problem at hand.

lol. Immature players brought it unto themselves through excessive abuse, so its hardly Orwellian.

Orwellian? Guild Wars is not a public government, it is private property. You were peddling your wares in a no soliciting area. They removed you from the area and showed you where you can freely sell your items. You can't walk into a random art gallery and start selling rolex watches now, can you? No.
And the response of "but everyone else was doing it!" is just so 10 year old brat I don't know where to begin...

Excellent analogy, Miral! So true, so true. This whole post is QFT.

Ignoring one person spamming crap in local chat is a lot easier than ignoring a district full of trade spammers.

LOL @ The OP! What a thread! If you want to spam your crap in all chat, you're going to get a ban. It's simple. It's efective. It's GW life. LMAO. You can rot for all I care. I'm done with your kind. Cya in LoTR's where your crappy gameplay will get you banned too..... if I have anything to say about it.

Honestly, did the OP just search for something to complain about and support it with completely arbitrary/unfounded points?

Yes, the community should be shaped by its gaming community. And guess what? It is! No matter how much the public gripes and moans, nearly EVERY change that Anet makes to this game is via overwhelming player opinions, needed game balances, metagame issues, etc.

Public chat is the very least of issues for this game that Anet continually works on and attempts to alleviate, but even the small things they try and listen to the community about. This was a community push change. All the spam that we always see in public chat was NOT the "community". All that spam was professional farmers/bots, dedicated to taking advantage of a free service/game in order to make real world cash. They do not and should never affect *your* opinion as a gamer nor should they ever be considered something that a gaming company (i.e. Anet) needs to be "fair" with. Making it harder for them to leech off this game and its true community is a GOOD thing, lets not kid ourselves.

Sure i admit a good amount of trade spam in local chat was normal players trying to get people's attn to sell their goods as well as the usual overzealous bot traders. However, the small detriment vs normal players *IS* acceptable since we now have TWO dedicated sources for trading. The trading channel, and the Party Search to list items and *file* it into the trade catagory is more then sufficient. It just comes down to people who do not like change, and who need that friendly nudge. No matter if they want it or not, it is necessary for Anet to take this step as they continue past their 2 years of improving, maintaining and securing for the thousands that enjoy this game...

Just another complaint thread for people like me to point out common sense. lol. However, my opinion is still just opinion, and hopefully it at least makes people and the OP think more...

cheers!

I've given up trying to sell things altogether in this game. The (utter lack of) trade system is retarded, and now I have to read pink on grey to find a buyer. This is a deal-breaker, ArenaNet. If the trade system in Guild Wars 2 is this bad, I will not be buying it. I'm probably not going to buy EotN because the trade system will still suck.

I'm not a spammer. I actually usually use the party search window. Guess what, it doesn't work. If I could put a mouse-over link to "stuff I'm selling" kinda like the skill templates, it'd be different. It would solve a LOT of my issues. Let me guess, though.

I don't believe I just read that.

And I don't believe you have the slightest clue what Orwellian, 1984 and Big Brother means... or when it started. I doubt you're even old enough. If you were you wouldn't be applying the concept to something as inconsequential in the big picture called LIFE as a game.

Use the chat feature as YOU feel is necessary or effective? Huh? What? Are you serious?

so start a request/suggestion thread to change the color of trade chat text, if one doesn't already exist O.O requests got the bans, requests may get a color change.

What an idiotic whine thread. And so overdramatic as well. So you can't spam in the local chat. Boo hoo. That's the way it should have been in the first place. So you have to follow a simple rule. Oh gosh that's so "orwellian!" Give me a break.

This is just yet another spammer complaining that he can no longer break the rules as he once did. This is pathetic.

I was amazed to finally see this new announcement come up, all i could think of was about damn time. A little while after 2 years of it occuring and they just now found the problem with it, thats nice.

I'd still like to know how exactly these "account marks" will affect it, to be honest I think they put that up just to scare people away from doing it, and they won't actually enforce anything.

Eh, what do I know....

I agree totally with cracking down with names that are racist and full of verbal abuse but the sexual innuendo is still funny if it's a good one lol.

i believe the account mark is a 3-day ban, and if you come back and spam again and get another mark, you get a longer ban, and however many until its a permanent closure of the account...
